The Austin Company completed a $17-million contract to design, engineer and construct a new bakery and warehouse for Interbake Foods in Richmond, Virginia.
Dating back to 1899, Interbake Foods is one of the United States’ largest manufacturers of store-brand cookies, crackers, ice cream sandwiches, cones and other novelty ice cream products. The company has been a Girl Scout cookie supplier since the 1930s.
The project included the renovation of a 190,000 SF existing, but never used truck plant into a bakery, and a 180,000 SF addition to be used for warehousing, distribution and support.
A division of Canadian food industry giant, George Weston Ltd., Interbake Foods has nine manufacturing locations throughout the United States. Austin has been providing design-build services to George Weston for more than 10 years.
